The Math Yogis
While Tier I instruction is the most important component of learning, it cannot, even at its best, accelerate student achievement quickly enough. Pandemic-related disruptions continue to plague math proficiency especially in marginalized communities of color. We are committed to addressing these disparities by intentionally prioritizing schools serving large BIPOC populations and focusing on accelerating math achievement through high-dosage tutoring.
A review of almost 200 studies found that high-dosage tutoring – delivered more than three days per week or at a rate of at least 50 hours over 36 weeks — is one of the few school-based interventions with demonstrated large, positive effects on math.

Our specialized hiring approach allows us to recruit professionals with strong math expertise and cultural responsiveness which promotes relationship-centered instruction with students. We provide ongoing training to our tutors, rooted in care, accountability, standards-aligned mathematical curricula and research-based data.

Every partnership is intentionally designed around the unique needs, culture, and financial constraints of each school. We offer flexible, student-centered support that includes in-school tutoring, after-school and Saturday programs, targeted interventions, and short-term intensive support. Each school is supported by a dedicated on-site lead who integrates deeply into the campus, collaborates regularly with school teams, reviews data, and adjusts plans in real time.

Key Program Components
Math Yogis High-Dosage Tutoring adheres to these research-based features of high-dosage tutoring that have been proven to have positive effects on student outcomes. We leverage a small-group tutoring experience, proven research, years of experience in schools and a data-driven methodology to maximize schools’ time, space, and budget.
Group size
No more than three to four students at a time.
Frequency
Tutoring involves three or more sessions per week with sessions that last for about 30-60 minutes per day, for at least ten weeks.
Instructional materials
High-quality instructional materials that align with grade-level standards: specifically materials that align to curriculums such as Illustrative Math, Eureka, I-Ready, and CPM as well as being done at a pace that aligns to a students experience (what they experience in tutoring aligns with what they have seen recently in class)
